Becky hesistated, then smiled back at Adam. “Ok, thank you,” she said, slipping the money back into her purse. She watched as he went up to the counter to order. He was such a gentleman! She’d never met any boys like that in Florida; they were all macho jerks who thought they could get any girl. Becky shuddered at the memory, then quickly took out her compact mirror to make sure she looked okay. Why was she so nervous all of the sudden? When Adam returned with the drinks, Becky sat up quickly and put her compact away. “Yum!” She said, blowing on the rim of her latte. “Thanks again, Adam. So what do you like about Degrassi?” She asked him.

Adam took another sip of his drink before sitting the cup down on the table.  ”It’s not a problem,” he told her, looking over at her. “Well, I have some great friends at Degrassi.  The Drama Club is pretty good, but I could be biased about that… and some of the teachers are cool, I guess,” he shrugged.  Degrassi wasn’t really his favorite place to be, considering his previous year at the school.  ”What about you?  Anything at Degrassi sparking your interest?” he asked her, curiously.  In his head, he wondered what she could be interested in at school.

Becky nodded, genuinely interested in Adam’s activities at Degrassi. She felt a bit sad when he said he had great friends there, wishing she could be better at making friends. When he mentioned Drama Club, Becky raised her eyebrows. He liked acting too? How wonderful! “I was actually going to join the Drama Club!” Becky replied, setting her drink down on the table. “At my old school, I helped run the musicals and everything. I’m so glad that I have you to look for there!” She smiled brightly and leaned across the table to grasp Adam’s hand in excitement.

“Thank you,” Becky replies shyly, twirling a strand of hair around her finger. She was usually outgoing and always had an idea of what to say, but for some reason she felt much more timid around Adam. It was as if she was worried that if she was too peppy and talkative, Adam would get intimidated and wouldn’t like her. When he asked what she wanted, she snapped out of her thoughts. “Oh, I’ll have a mocha latte,” she answered with a sweet smile. “But really Adam, you don’t have to pay! I can get it.” Becky took a five dollar bill out of her pocket and handed it to him.

Adam shook his head when she pulled out the money, holding his hand up to push it away, “I insist that I pay,” he told her, taking his wallet out of the pocket of his jeans.  ”I’ll be right back,” he said, giving her a grin before making his way over to the counter.  He ordered a mocha latte for Becky, and a coffee for himself.  After paying, he waited for the drinks, tapping his foot impatiently.  Glancing back to the table, another smile crept onto his face.  Turning back around to the counter at the sound of his order, Adam picked up the two cups and swiftly walked back to the table, “Here you go,” he said, setting the drink down in front of Becky.  Taking his seat, he waited a second to let the drink cool before taking a sip.

Becky smiled happily and waved at Adam as he entered. “Hi!” She greeted him, placing her purse on the floor beside her chair. “Oh, don’t worry, I was only here for a few minutes,” she assured him, smiling brightly. Becky admired his plaid button down shirt and perfectly…
